We believe that books, and the empowerment and enjoyment that comes through literacy, should be a part of everyone's world.

Our vision is of a culture of reading in Mozambique, with all children and adults experiencing the joy of books and empowerment through literacy.

Our mission is to bring literacy workshops and library experiences to children from all cultures, environments, language and literacy levels, living in Mozambique.

Our goals are: 

To ensure that libraries and specialist literacy workshops are accessible to children across all walks of life.

To ensure long term success by training Community Literacy Mentors in each community with which we engage.

To provide functional adult literacy training, targeting women in Mozambique.

To produce and publish a range of children’s literacy books, culturally and environmentally appropriate for children in Mozambique.

We aim to achieve long term success through a robust sustainability plan in which profits from the delivery of workshops and membership to our resource rich library at Livro Aberto’s city centre Language & Literacy Centre, supports the cost of community based work.
